Paranormal Activity---My perspective .

It’s been six hours after I saw ParanormalActivity, and it still has me looking over my shoulder, checking out shadows, and turning on the lights of my room,and every 2 minutes looking at my room's window....just to ensure that there's no one looking at me through my window from outside(mere room ki khidki se poori wing dikhti hai.....woooooooh). I feel fairly sure that I won’t sleep soundly tonight. Any bump or creak that my room or dome(BIET Jhansi ki bhasa main bole to dome mane ''''''khopcha re....khopcha""") makes is going to make my eyes shoot right open. There is nothing, and I mean nothing, that can freak me out faster than a well spun ghost story and specially if it be like this one..(phoonk wagerah ki to mujhe hawa bhi nahi lagi thi.....:)).


in the movie there is a guy named , Micah who tries his best to battle the unseen presence that has been following Katie,his wife, ever since she was eight-years old. He buys an Ouija Board to communicate with the Thing, sprinkles powder on the floor to capture his footprints, sets up umpteen video cameras all over the house and keeps the bedroom door ajar. The couple even calls in a demonologist(he he he wahan pe aise log bhi hote hain...aur wo bhi professional) to give them some sane, scientific or spiritual advice. But nothing does seem to work. The bed does keep creaking at night, the stairways shake with loud thumping noises, the door shuts and opens on its own accord, the sheets get crumpled, heavy breathing fills the air and Katie begins to bruise....woooooooooooooooooohhhh...scary isn't it !


Okay, okay, I know the “thing” in Paranormal Activity is labeled a demon, but call it a demon, call it a ghost, call it some Mother Fucker Doug if you’d like, but if just ONE of the things that happens to the couple in this film happened to me, you could call me Micha because I definitely would have left Panchawati,forget the idea of leaving my dome !.

i watched this movie at 2:00 am at night,all alone in my room,[[[with my chaadar wrapped around me in such a way that a demon or bhoot would easily look at me if it was in my room,but i wrappd chadar so well ..only to ensure ki bhooot agar chahhe to kitta bhi mujhe dekh sake but i should not be able to see a glimpse of any bhoot,out of all that covering the only thing that was coming out was just my eyes which were staring at my Pc monitor and nothing else !]]....with my sony ericsson ear phones plugged into my Pc n my ears...player was Ogg(an open source pplayer.....guess what ....i don't use windows....it sucks the hell out of me...i use Linux as my platform)and the volume was full at its max !

If you haven’t got the idea yet, ParanormalActivity worked for me,it really really scared the fuckin shit out of me. Will it work for everyone? Probably not. If you don’t have some part of you that gets creeped out by ghosts and things that go bump in the night, then you may enjoy how the movie was shot or the skillful camera tricks,like one of the cool flips in the short movie competition organised by FAH(Fine Arts and Hobbies Council,at BIET Jhansi......under Mahotsav I guess...YAR IN LOGO KO KOI ACHCHA NAAM NAHI Mila tha) that was presented by our third year CS smarty Ashutosh Vikram(nickname D****e :)]and his team, but talking about Paranormal.. it probably won’t be scaring you. See, I can watch all the gore you can throw at me, make it through the Italian films with the animal violence,or the SAW series i can watch all that suckin stuff and there’s not a slasher that’s been made yet that can give me the willies, but give me a film that realistically portrays a spectral menace that I can’t see and I’m done. By the end of Paranormal Activity, I was tense, jumpy, and a little sweaty around the edges to be perfectly frank.

No doubt this film will be endlessly compared to The Blair Witch Project(i wonder how many at BIET Jhansi are aware of this project !...only if u call it a project...but i never gave a damn to it :)), but to me there’s no comparison. Here’s what the Blair Witch gave me, a bloody ear, a girl snotting in the camera, a stick man, and an ending that left me wanting to punch someone. Call me crazy, but I need a payoff after I sit there for ninety minutes,phoonk ki to khair baaat hi chod do. On the other hand, Paranormal Activity gave me a spooky atmosphere, an incredibly tense build, characters I actually liked, and in the end… no spoilers here… it pays off in spades. I wish I could go into further detail as to what the film did right, but that’s going to have to wait for HOSTEL release because I don’t want to ruin a frame of this film for you folks.(yar koi ek cheez batao.....BIET ki ladkiyan is tarah ki movies dekhti hain kya?...i mean they wuld just run away like a hare on mere pronunciation of the word ghost...forget about a scary movie being watched by them.....he he he he :)....am i right guys?...are girls here that spoooky?or is there really a mentally balwaan naari,the rani laxmi bai of jhansi living in yashodhra? :)]

But anyway guys, we Indians are a braver lot. i Didn't really feel the chill, except in one or two sequences to be honest. But more than the leap-out-of-your-seat factor, it's the sheer experimental quality of the film that needs to be savoured and saluted. Shot entirely with a hand-held camera and featuring just two people for most of the screen time, the film manages to hold your attention in an age when cinema has donned a whole new `Avtar'. Even the horror is mostly imagined, minus all special effects that generally form the core of hardcore horror films like The Exorcist. This one's more in league with Rosemary's Baby where you feel the chill without ever seeing the scare factor.

So if you’re interested at all in the supernatural, then I highly recommend this film. If you’re interested in horror films that stand outside of the normal teen scares and remake mush that the studio generally turns out, then see this film. If you want to support a film that has traveled an amazing road from premise to screen to national release in USA(not in INDIA though), then see this film. If you’re not ready to chance having the beejebers scared out of you, then see this film and get spooked anyway. I was totally not expecting to like this flick. In the dark wing of ground floor at Panchawati(remember it was 2:45 am in night when i watched this movie) on my way to get some kurkure from Deepak Canteen, I was already talking crap about how it would more than likely suck. I was wrong. I’m not saying Paranormal Activity is going to change the game or revolutionize horror cinema, but it will make me sleep a little less soundly tonight.

i wish a Happpy Paranormal activity in all of your khopchaas :) !...................[I AM NOT KIDDING...Wooooooooooooooooooooohhhhhhhhhh]
